Job summary

The Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join the Sumter County Health Department in Americus, GA. You will perform advanced nursing functions across multiple health districts, including preventive care, PrEP and women’s health services, and manage patient education and clinical procedures.

Travel will be required across West Central Health District’s 16 counties; applicant must hold GA RN and APRN licenses with board certification and CPR.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Nursing and board-certified APRN with Georgia license.
• CPR certification and state licensure required.
• Experience in public health or women’s health preferred.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preventive health care assessments including PrEP, women's health, STD exams, and hypertension/cancer screening.
• Assess conditions, perform tests, prescribe treatments, and educate patients.
• Perform injections, immunizations, and minor procedures as needed.
• Insert and remove various LARC devices as part of care.
• Within two years, function as an expanded‑role nurse per patient needs.
• Travel within West Central Health District to 16 counties.

As a Nurse Practitioner within the Sumter County Health Department at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Job Responsibilities

This position will be housed in Americus, GA and will travel throughout West Central Health District’s 16‑county health departments to perform advanced nursing functions. You will support the Department by utilizing your expertise to fulfill the following responsibilities:

• Conduct preventative health care assessments with a focus on PrEP Services, Women’s Health, STD examinations and treatment, and hypertension & cancer detection.
• Assess the client’s condition, perform, and interpret laboratory tests, prescribe appropriate treatments/therapies, and provide education.
• Perform therapeutic procedures, such as injections, immunizations and minor invasive procedures as medically required/recommended.
• Perform insertions and removals of various LARC devices.
• Within 2 years of hire, function as an expanded‑role nurse to provide nursing care consistent with the patient’s level of need.
• Travel will be required throughout West Central Health District’s 16‑county health departments.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university and/or other education requirements approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing AND certification in the specialty area(s) approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing AND Georgia license as a Registered Professional Nurse AND Georgia license as an APRN AND CPR certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Public Health experience, prior knowledge and/or experience with Women’s Health, PrEP services, Women’s health, STD examinations.

Additional Information

All West Central Health District 7 employees are deemed essential workers in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event including but not limited to: staffing a shelter, working at a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or working at a Point of Dispensing site (POD). If you are called on to participate, you are required to report to the designated site as a condition of employment, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.
