UT Southwestern Medical Center's Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the Solid Tumor team. The NP or PA serves as a key clinical provider within a multidisciplinary team, handling hospital-based oncologic care, admissions, discharges, and coordination of care.

You will perform comprehensive exams, interpret labs and imaging, participate in research protocols, and educate patients and families.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Physician Assistant program (ARC-PA) required.
  • Current NCCPA certification (PA-C).
  • Licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant in Texas on hire.
  • CPR/ACLS/related life-support certifications as UT Southwestern policy requires.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts comprehensive H&P exams and ongoing patient assessments.
  • Develops care plans using labs, imaging, and diagnostics.
  • Maintains proficiency in specialty-specific procedures.
  • Provides patient/family education and care coordination.
  • Participates in quality initiatives and research protocols.
  • Collaborates on research and applies evidence-based practice.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC), a National Cancer Institute‑designated Comprehensive Cancer Center affiliated with UT Southwestern Medical Center, is seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Solid Tumor team. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant serves as a key clinical provider within a highly specialized, multidisciplinary team, working in close collaboration with physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and support staff. The CUH inpatient solid tumor APP focuses on the hospital‑based care of patients with known and unknown oncologic disease. They are key members of a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and allied health care providers. Advanced Practice Provider care includes history and physicals, admissions, discharges, interpreting laboratory values, radiograph interpretation and other diagnostics, care of research patients, coordination of care, progress notes, family and patient education, referrals, and prescription of medications both inpatient and outpatient.

Clinic Hours

Variable 10° and 12° shifts (one weekend per month and holidays)

Required

Education

  • Master's degree graduate of a Master's degree or higher; accredited Physician Assistant program (ARC‑PA)
Licenses and Certifications
  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification (PA‑C)
  • Certified licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board upon hire
  • Current American Heart Association life‑support certification(s) based on UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers
Preferred
  • Experience: 1 year relevant clinical experience
Job Duties
  • Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
  • Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate and based on specialty and training.
  • Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families, and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
  • Facilitates/participates in quality‑related initiatives and/or clinical research protocols through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
  • Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence‑based best practices to patient care.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
