Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant (Infectious Disease)

Job Description:
- Full-time infectious disease nurse practitioner or Physician assistant for a busy Virginia based ID practice
- Hospitals covered: Reston and Stone Springs Hospitals of HCA system and INOVA Loudoun Hospital
Essential Education Experience and Skills:
- Active unrestricted Virginia license and active DEA license and NCCPA certification for Physician Assistant or an AANP certification for Nurse Practitioner
- Outpatient infectious disease clinic: on Tuesdays 12-4pm
- EHR- Meditech and EPIC system
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- All consults/follow-up/prescriptions will be reviewed and signed off by the consulting physician rounding at the hospitals mentioned above
- See new patients, follow-up of existing patients and post-hospitalization discharges
- Perform history and physical assessments of patients that are accurate, complete, concise, relevant and appropriate for age, gender and clinical problems
- Obtain, compile and record patient medical data, including health history, initial infectious disease consults, progress notes, and results of physical exams
- Administer or order diagnostic tests and interpret diagnostic test results for deviations from normal and determine the need for follow-up appointments and further treatment options
- Make tentative diagnoses and decisions about management and treatment of patients
- Prescribe therapy and medication with physician approval (e.g., antibiotics, antiemetics, diuretics, topical medications, antihistamines)
- Understand basic drug interactions
- Instruct and counsel patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens and health maintenance
- Update patient records and check records for accuracy at each patient appointment
- Complete all documentation and ensure readiness for signature of supervising physician
- No invasive procedures need to be performed
- Maintain good internal and external relationships in the performance of all duties and responsibilities
- Use advanced practice skills with supervision/collaboration of licensed physicians to provide comprehensive health care services to patients
- Provide physical/psychological health assessments, patient education and counseling, orders, and interpret diagnostic procedures, and manage acute and chronic disease conditions ensuring continuity of care for individuals
- Maintain active nurse practitioner license/DEA license
- The current position will be reviewed and renewed every 6 months
- One month advance notice is required prior to changing to any new position
- Medical-Liability coverage will be provided only for patients seen for Dr. Nutankalva, MD
- Inform/notify if any other part-time positions are accepted in addition to the current position
