Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant (Infectious Disease)

Job Description:
- Full-time infectious disease nurse practitioner or Physician assistant for a busy Virginia based ID practice
- Hospitals covered: Reston and Stone Springs Hospitals of HCA system and INOVA Loudoun Hospital
Essential Education Experience and Skills:
- Active unrestricted Virginia license and active DEA license
- NCCPA certification for Physician Assistant or AANP certification for Nurse Practitioner
- Outpatient infectious disease clinic: on Tuesdays 12-4pm
- EHR experience with Meditech and EPIC system
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Review and sign off on all consults, follow-ups, and prescriptions with the consulting physician rounding at the hospitals
- See new patients, follow-up with existing patients, and manage post-hospitalization discharges
- Perform accurate, complete, concise, and relevant history and physical assessments of patients
- Compile and record patient medical data, including health history, initial infectious disease consults, progress notes, and results of physical exams
- Administer or order diagnostic tests and interpret results for deviations from normal, determining the need for follow-up appointments and further treatment options
- Make tentative diagnoses and decisions about management and treatment of patients
- Prescribe therapy and medication with physician approval (e.g., antibiotics, antiemetics, diuretics, topical medications, antihistamines)
- Understand basic drug interactions
- Instruct and counsel patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens and health maintenance
- Update patient records and ensure accuracy at each appointment
- Complete all documentation for signature by supervising physician
- No invasive procedures are required
- Maintain good internal and external relationships in all duties
- Utilize advanced practice skills with supervision/collaboration of licensed physicians to provide comprehensive health care services
- Provide physical/psychological health assessments, patient education, and counseling, while managing acute and chronic disease conditions to ensure continuity of care
- Maintain active nurse practitioner license and DEA license
- The current position will be reviewed and renewed every 6 months
- One month advance notice is required prior to changing to any new position
- Medical liability coverage will be provided only for patients seen for Dr. Nutankalva, MD
- Notify if any other part-time positions are accepted in addition to the current position
