VitalCore Health Strategies (VCHS) in Colorado Springs is hiring a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide ambulatory medical care in a correctional setting. The role emphasizes MAT and interdisciplinary collaboration with physicians, security staff, and healthcare professionals.

The position requires graduation from an accredited NP/PA program, MAT experience, and current licenses in the state.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited NP/PA program.
• MAT experience is required.
• Must possess current licenses or certifications in the state of employment.
• Correctional experience is preferred but not required.
• Maintains required licensure/credentialing for PAs/NPs.

Responsibilities

• Respond to and initiate care for medical emergencies in the facility.
• Identify patient health problems and prescribe treatment under physician direction.
• Provide medical care using regimens approved by a physician.
• Educate patients, healthcare staff, and correctional staff.
• Document all healthcare contacts.
• Adhere to safety, security policies, and infection control practices.
• Supervise and delegate to other team members as appropriate.
• Attend training and meetings as required.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT POSITION SUMMARY

The Nurse Practitioner utilizes the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with ambulatory care as their primary focus in a correctional environment. The Physician’s Assistant specializes in Medication - Assisted Treatnent (MAT) and works with a variety of healthcare professionals/security officers in a correctional environment to provide basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identifies patient health problems and prescribes treatment under the direction of a physician.
• Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician.
• Provides education to inmate/patient, healthcare staff, and correctional staff.
• Documents all healthcare contacts.
• Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills. Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
• Delegates to and supervises other team members as appropriate.
• Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.
• Attends training and meetings as required.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Graduate of an accredited college/university NP / PA program
• Must have MAT experience
• Must possess current licenses or certifications in the state of employment
• Experience in Correctional desired but not required
• Maintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for physician assistants / Nurse Practitioner in the healthcare unit.
