VitalCore Health Strategies seeks a PRN Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support medical care at Johnson County Adult Detention Facilities in Olathe, KS. The role collaborates with physicians and security staff to deliver basic medical services in a correctional setting.

Candidate must have an accredited NP/PA program graduate status and state licensure, with correctional healthcare experience preferred. Comprehensive benefits and a supportive team environment are offered.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited NP/PA program.
• Must possess current state licenses or certifications.
• Experience in correctional health is preferred but not required.
• Maintain annual licensure and credentialing for PAs/NPs.

Responsibilities

• Respond to and initiate care for medical emergencies in the facility.
• Identify patient health problems and prescribe treatment under physician direction.
• Provide medical care using physician-approved regimens.
• Educate inmates, patients, and staff on healthcare matters.
• Document all healthcare contacts.
• Follow safety and security policies; participate in disaster drills.
• Delegate to and supervise other team members.
• Attend required trainings and meetings.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT POSITION SUMMARY

The Nurse Practitioner utilizes the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with ambulatory care as their primary focus in a correctional environment. The Physician's Assistant works with a variety of healthcare professionals/security officers in a correctional environment to provide basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identifies patient health problems and prescribes treatment under the direction of a physician.
• Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician.
• Provides education to inmate/patient, healthcare staff, and correctional staff.
• Documents all healthcare contacts.
• Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills. Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
• Delegates to and supervises other team members as appropriate.
• Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.Attends training and meetings as required.

NURSE PRACTITIONER / PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Graduate of an accredited college/university NP / PA program
• Must possess current licenses or certifications in the state of employment
• Experience in Correctional desired but not required
• Maintains required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for physician assistants / Nurse Practitioner in the healthcare unit.
