Job summary

Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center seeks an Orthopaedic Advanced Practice Provider to support the Orthopaedic Trauma division. The role focuses on post-operative and outpatient follow-up, fracture care, and patient education, with no operating room duties.

The APP will conduct independent clinics, manage wound care, and assist with care coordination and recovery planning for trauma patients.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in nursing required.
  • National certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse required.
  • Current CRNP license through Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Two (2) years of RN experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide post-operative and post-discharge follow-up care for orthopaedic trauma patients.
  • Manage fracture care and follow-up treatment plans.
  • Conduct independent outpatient clinics while supporting trauma surgeons.
  • Perform wound assessments and wound care.
  • Ilizarov frame management and pin-site care.
  • Support care coordination, return-to-work planning, and longitudinal trauma recovery management.

Education

SUMMARY OF POSITION

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Orthopaedic Advanced Practice Provider to join our Orthopaedic department, primarily supporting our Orthopaedic Trauma division. The outpatient Trauma APP will provide post-operative and post-discharge follow-up care, manage fracture care and follow-up treatment plans, and conduct independent outpatient clinics while supporting Trauma surgeons. Responsibilities also include providing comprehensive patient and family education, particularly for trauma patients who may experience significant psychosocial and recovery challenges; performing wound assessments and managing wound care; providing Ilizarov frame management and pin-site care; and supporting care coordination, return-to-work planning, and longitudinal trauma recovery management. There is no OR work with this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S)
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • National certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse
  • Current license to practice as CRNP by Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners
  • Two (2) years' work experience as an RN
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)
