Job summary

Phelps Health in Rolla, Missouri, is seeking a Bariatrics Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our full-time team. You will work with surgeons, dietitians, and multidisciplinary staff across clinic, inpatient units, and the operating room to optimize bariatric care.

Qualifications

• Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) with bariatrics experience preferred.
• Ability to coordinate care with surgeons, dietitians, and other team members.
• Experience in clinic, inpatient, and OR settings beneficial.
• Strong documentation and program quality/ accreditation data skills.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate candidates for bariatric surgery with histories and physicals.
• Order and interpret preoperative labs and imaging; coordinate clearances.
• Educate patients on procedures, diet, and lifestyle changes; obtain consent.
• Round on inpatients; manage postoperative care and complications.
• Provide long-term follow-up on weight loss, nutrition, and meds.
• Manage comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension post-surgery.
• Assist in the operating room and perform credentialed bedside procedures.
• Document accurately and support program quality data.

Position Summary

The Bariatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant cares for bariatric patients, working with surgeons, dietitians, and others in clinic, inpatient units, and the operating room settings.

• Evaluate candidates for bariatric surgery, including histories, physicals, and obesity-related conditions
• Order and interpret preoperative labs, imaging, and screening; coordinate clearances and insurance documentation
• Educate patients on procedures, preoperative diet, and lifestyle changes, and obtain informed consent
• Round on inpatients and manage postoperative care, pain, wounds, and complications such as leaks or strictures
• Provide long-term follow-up: weight loss, nutrition, vitamin and mineral monitoring, and medication adjustments
• Manage comorbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea as they change after surgery
• Assist in the operating room and perform credentialed bedside and clinic procedures
• Document accurately, and support program quality and accreditation data

• This is a full-time position based at the Phelps Health Hospital in Rolla, Missouri.
