The Nurse Practitioner will assess, diagnose, treat, and manage the healthcare needs of incarcerated individuals within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. The NP will provide evidence-based medical care, promote wellness, manage chronic conditions, and coordinate treatment plans while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and healthcare standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, physical examinations, and medical evaluations.
- Diagnose and treat acute illnesses, injuries, and chronic medical conditions.
- Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic testing.
- Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with state regulations and clinical protocols.
- Develop and manage individualized treatment plans.
- Monitor and manage chronic diseases including diabetes, hypertension, asthma, COPD, and other ongoing conditions.
- Provide preventive healthcare, wellness counseling, and patient education.
- Respond to urgent medical situations and collaborate with onsite healthcare staff to ensure appropriate patient care.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation.
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, mental health professionals, and other interdisciplinary team members.
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
- Current Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Wisconsin (or ability to obtain prior to start).
- Current BLS certification.
- Minimum one 1-2 years of Nurse Practitioner experience.
Preferred
- Experience in primary care, family practice, internal medicine, urgent care, emergency medicine, occupational health, or correctional healthcare.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience serving diverse and underserved populations.
