Job summary

CompassionCare Hospice in Reno, NV is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our team on a PRN basis. The NP will provide compassionate medical care, symptom management, and care planning for patients at the end of life in a home-based hospice setting.

The role requires a Master's in nursing, current NP license, and 5+ years nursing experience, with prescriptive authority and strong collaboration with physicians and the IDT.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in nursing is required.
• Current state NP license required.
• 5+ years nursing experience preferred.
• Prescriptive authority required.

Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate medical care and symptom management.
• Perform assessments, order/interpet diagnostic tests, and develop care plans.
• Prescribe medications, manage treatments, and coordinate hospice services.
• Conduct and document face-to-face visits for eligibility and recertification.
• Collaborate with physicians and IDT team to align care with patient goals.
• Participate in care planning and coordinate with team and external providers.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Educate patients and families on medical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
• Contribute to quality improvement and professional development.
• Serve as a clinical resource and liaison to community partners.
• Facilitate new patient consultations and health history reviews.
• Perform physical examinations and screenings of patients.
• Order and administer tests including bloodwork and interpret results.
• Diagnose health problems and detect changes in patient condition.
• Administer medications and operate medical equipment.
• Recommend future treatment options or appointments as needed.
• Provide referrals to other practitioners when necessary.
• Ensure patient records are up to date including test results and immunizations.
• Deliver physician-level care while complying with policies and metrics.
• All other duties as assigned.

As a Nurse Practitioner You will:

Qualifications

Education:

• Master's degree in nursing

• Current state nurse practitioner license required

• 5+ years nursing experience required

Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge base of HIPAA and OSHA required

• Strong interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written

• Patient, compassionate nature

• Ability to operate as part of a team, alongside physicians and other medical staff

• Proficiency in medical instruments and equipment

• Proficiency in computer-based data management programs and information systems preferred

• Prescriptive authorization required

Work Requirements:

• Active unrestricted license to practice in state

• Certificate/license as a Nurse Practitioner to meet individual state practice act

• Current DEA registration if applicable
