Job summary

UConn Health in Farmington, CT seeks a skilled Nurse Practitioner with Internal Medicine experience to join the UConn Medical Group Internal Medicine Department. This part-time role is 32 hours per week, typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.

to 5:15 p.m., with a 60-minute unpaid meal break, and may require travel to other UMG offices. The NP will evaluate illnesses, perform exams, develop care plans, order tests and medications, and coordinate follow-up and referrals.

Qualifications

• Licensed RN with APRN program completion and CT license.
• Current unencumbered Connecticut APRN license required.
• CT Controlled Substance and DEA licenses required or obtainable.

UConn Health is looking for a highly skilled Nurse Practitioner with Internal Medicine experience . This position will be located in the UConn Medical Group Internal Medicine Department in the Outpatient Pavillion in Farmington and may be required to travel to other UMG offices.

SCHEDULE: . Parttime, 32 hours per week Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., 60 minute unpaid meal break.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Evaluates, assesses patient illness/injuries
• Performs physical examinations, and special examinations; takes medical histories
• Develops plans of care
• Intervenes in crisis situations or patient deterioration; provides routine and illness care
• Orders medications; orders diagnostic tests and evaluates results
• Assumes responsibility for patient follow-up, coordination, and referrals to other health care providers as necessary
• Maintains patient medical records
• May develop policies/procedures; participates in or designs changes in the system of care delivery
• May participate in clinical research
• Participates in medical student and health professional teaching; acts as a clinical consultant to peers and other health care professionals
• Performs all other duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Considerable knowledge of anatomy and physiology
• Knowledge of different disciplines and disease states.
• Knowledge of medication and their interactions and reactions.
• Physical assessment skills and counseling skills.
• Oral and written communication skill.
• Skill in performing invasive procedures.
• Ability to work independently; ability to work under pressure; ability to formulate plans of care; decision making ability.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

GENERAL EXPERIENCE

• Licensed Registered Nurse and a graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner (APRN) program
• Current unencumbered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) license in the State of Connecticut
• Connecticut Controlled Substance license and DEA license.

PREFERRED

• Experience as an APRN in the outpatient/ambulatory clinic setting
• Primary Care experience at the APRN or RN level (Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, Family Medicine)
• Academic interest in preventative healthcare maintenance and quality measures
• Collaborative experience working with physicians, sharing patient panel, and being on a multidisciplinary team
