Job summary

University Medical Center of El Paso is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse to supervise the Surgical/Telemetry Progressive department. The role will oversee clinical units, coordinate projects, and support the Nursing Director in developing and evaluating unit systems and patient care standards.

Responsibilities include coordinating shifts, supervising Associates, and applying professional nursing practice to deliver age-appropriate care.

Qualifications

• Current and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas is required.
• Current CPR training required.
• ACLS within 6 months of department assignment for critical care, Labor and Delivery and Antepartum areas.
• NPR training within 6 months for Mother/Baby, Well Baby Nursery, Labor and Delivery, and Antepartum.
• PALS training within 6 months for Ambulatory Surgical Unit, Cath Lab/IR, Emergency, Endoscopy, OR, Recovery and Urgent Care.
• NPD-BC/CNML/NE-BC certification or approved nursing certification within 3 years of starting the position.

Job Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Nursing Director, supervises all departmental Associates and the functions of the clinical units. Assists with or conducts delegated projects, performs managerial responsibilities as delegated by the Director, including supervision and evaluation of patient care and all department Associates. Assumes responsibility for clinical resources and coordinates preceptor activities. Assists Nursing Director in the development, implementation, and evaluation of unit-specific systems/activities, which result in organizational improvement. Coordinates activities between shifts and clinical areas to ensure continuity of patient care. Provides clinical patient care to patients utilizing the nursing process. Utilizes knowledge of professional nursing practice in providing age-appropriate care based on scientific principles, nursing standards of practice, and standards of patient care for patient populations.

Work Experience

License/Registration/Certification

• Current and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas is required.
• Current CPR training required.
• Current ACLS obtained within 6 months of being in the department for critical care, Labor and Delivery and Antepartum areas.
• Current NPR training obtained within 6 months of being in the department is required for the following areas: Mother/Baby, Well Baby Nursery, Labor and Delivery, and Antepartum.
• Current PALS training obtained within 6 months of being in the department is required for the following areas: Ambulatory Surgical Unit, Cath Lab/Interventional Radiology, Emergency, Endoscopy, Operating Room, Recovery and Urgent Care.
• Obtainment of the Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC), Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML), Nurse Executive (NE-BC) certification or an approved nursing certification in specialty area is required within 3years of being in the position.

Education and Training

Bachelor degree in Nursing is required.
