Job summary

University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) seeks a Nursing Supervisor to oversee departmental associates and clinical unit functions. You will conduct delegated projects, assist the Nursing Director, and coordinate preceptor activities to improve unit operations.

You will ensure continuity of patient care by aligning shifts and areas and apply nursing standards to care across patient populations. The role requires a TX RN license, CPR, ACLS, NPR, and PALS certifications within specified

Qualifications

• Three years of lead/supervisory/management experience with strong direct patient care.
• Current and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas.
• CPR certification current; ACLS within 6 months for critical care areas; NPR/PALS within 6 months where required; NPD-BC/CNML/NE-BC or equivalent certification within 3 years.

Responsibilities

Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Nursing Director, supervises all departmental Associates and the functions of the clinical units. Assists with or conducts delegated projects, performs managerial responsibilities as delegated by the Director, including supervision and evaluation of patient care and all department Associates. Assumes responsibility for clinical resources and coordinates preceptor activities. Assists Nursing Director in the development, implementation, and evaluation of unit-specific systems/activities, which result in organizational improvement. Coordinates activities between shifts and clinical areas to ensure continuity of patient care. Provides clinical patient care to patients utilizing the nursing process. Utilizes knowledge of professional nursing practice in providing age-appropriate care based on scientific principles, nursing standards of practice, and standards of patient care for patient populations.

Work Experience

License/Registration/Certification

• Current and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas is required.
• Current CPR training required.
• Current ACLS obtained within 6 months of being in the department for critical care, Labor and Delivery and Antepartum areas.
• Current NPR training obtained within 6 months of being in the department is required for the following areas: Mother/Baby, Well Baby Nursery, Labor and Delivery, and Antepartum.
• Current PALS training obtained within 6 months of being in the department is required for the following areas: Ambulatory Surgical Unit, Cath Lab/Interventional Radiology, Emergency, Endoscopy, Operating Room, Recovery and Urgent Care.
• Obtainment of the Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC), Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML), Nurse Executive (NE-BC) certification or an approved nursing certification in specialty area is required within 3 years of being in the position.

Education and Training

Bachelor degree in Nursing is required.
