Job summary

University Medical Center of El Paso is seeking a Nursing Leader to plan, supervise, and evaluate patient care and nursing staff across the Surgical Hospital Emergency Department and affiliated areas. The role requires coordinating shifts to maintain continuous, safe, high-quality patient care.

The candidate will oversee clinical operations, apply nursing standards, and mentor staff while ensuring compliance with BLS, ACLS, and PALS timelines.

Qualifications

  • Five years of lead/supervisory/management experience in a clinical setting.
  • Current and active RN license in Texas is required.
  • BLS training required; ACLS and PALS within 6 months of department start.
  • NPD-BC, CNML, or other approved nursing certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

Job description

  • Facility University Medical Center of El Paso
  • Department UMCSH Emergency Department (Surgical Hospital)
  • Schedule - Shift - Hours Full Time - Days - 8 am - 5 pm

Job Summary
Plans, supervises, and evaluates patient care and nursing personnel of a clinical area, to include the Surgical and satellite Emergency Departments, on a 24-hour basis. Coordinates duties for all shifts to accomplish continuity of safe quality patient care. Monitors outcome measures and shares variances with Associates for continuous process improvement in a clinical area. Responsible for supervision of the Surgical Hospital Emergency Department and the Surgical Hospital Administrators on Duty as requested by the Surgical Hospital Chief Operating Officer/Assistant Chief Nursing Officer.

Provides clinical patient care to patients utilizing the nursing process. Utilizes knowledge of professional nursing practice in providing age-appropriate care based on scientific principles, nursing standards of practice, and standards of patient care for patient populations.

Work Experience

Five years of lead/supervisory/management experience is required. Experience preferably in a clinical setting.

License/Registration/Certification
  • Current and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas is required.
  • Current BLS traning is required.
  • ACLS and PALS are required to be obtained within 6 months of being in the department.
  • Obtainment of the Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC) certification, Certified Nurse Manager and Leader (CNML), Nurse Executive Leadership certification or one of the following approved nursing certification in specialty area is highly preferred:
    • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN)
    • Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN)
    • Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN)
    • Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN)
Education and Training

Bachelor degree in Nursing is required.
