Job Description
Position Overview:

The Clinical Nurse Manager - Operating Room is responsible for leading the daily operations of Henry Ford Jackson Hospital's Main OR and CVOR, ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. In this role, you'll oversee the day-to-day clinical and operational functions of a busy surgical department that performs more than 11,500 procedures each year and supports a Level II Trauma Center. You'll work closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and nursing leaders to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality care while supporting the growth and development of a team of more than 75 perioperative professionals, including Registered Nurses, Surgical Technologists, First Assists, Equipment Technicians, and Nursing Assistants. The department includes 11 operating rooms, a hybrid OR, cystoscopy and GI procedure areas, and provides care across a wide range of surgical specialties, including trauma and cardiovascular services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead daily clinical operations of the Main OR and CVOR, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, regulatory standards, and quality metrics
  • Supervise, evaluate, and develop a team of 75+ perioperative professionals, including RNs, Surgical Technologists, First Assists, Equipment Technicians, and Nursing Assistants
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize surgical scheduling, resource allocation, and patient outcomes
  • Implement and monitor quality improvement initiatives, patient safety standards, and evidence-based perioperative practices
  • Manage fiscal responsibilities including budget planning, staffing allocation, supply chain management, and cost containment
  • Foster a culture of professional excellence, innovation, and continuous learning through staff mentoring, coaching, and educational programming
  • Facilitate shared governance and interdisciplinary collaboration to drive operational efficiency and service excellence
  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies specific to surgical services
  • Address performance issues, conduct staff evaluations, and support career development and advancement opportunities
  • Communicate effectively with hospital leadership, physicians, and staff to align surgical services with organizational strategic initiatives
Qualifications
Education/Experience Required:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing required
  • Current, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in an acute care surgical setting, with preference for Operating Room circulating experience
  • Demonstrated progressive nursing leadership experience in roles such as Charge Nurse, Assistant Clinical Manager, Clinical Coordinator, or Clinical Unit Leader
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and evaluate clinical nursing staff
  • Knowledge of quality management principles and service excellence standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills with demonstrated ability to facilitate team collaboration
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
  • Demonstrated innovative and collaborative leadership approach
Certifications/Licensures Required
  • Current BCLS/ACLS certification as required per unit standards
Education/Experience Preferred
  • Master's Degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Health Management, or related field
  • 2-5 years of Operating Room leadership or management experience
  • CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) certification or other ANCC-recognized nursing specialty certification
  • Experience managing perioperative teams in high-volume surgical environments
  • Leadership experience in trauma or cardiovascular surgical services
  • Active participation in Shared Governance Councils or interdisciplinary committees
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
  • Ability to work variable hours, including Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm schedule
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and occupational hazards inherent to surgical environments
  • Frequent walking, bending, and lifting to perform clinical and operational duties
  • Driving may be required dependent on role responsibilities
