Job summary

Compass Surgical Partners seeks a clinical leader to oversee Pre-Op, Operating Room, and PACU at the Short Pump CV Ambulatory Surgery Center in Henrico, VA. The role reports to the Center CEO and partners with leadership to set priorities, direct daily operations, and ensure regulatory compliance.

Hours are Monday–Friday, full-time with no nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call requirements. The ideal candidate brings ASN, active nursing license, and leadership experience in ASC or hospital

Qualifications

• Nursing leadership experience preferred in perioperative settings.
• Experience overseeing Pre-Op, OR, and PACU operations.
• Strong collaboration with physicians, anesthesia, and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead Pre-Op, OR, and PACU teams, scheduling, assignments, and patient flow.
• Ensure perioperative care meets physician orders, policies, and safety standards.
• Supervise preoperative assessments, patient preparation, and readiness for surgery.
• Oversee intraoperative nursing activities, site verification, equipment, aseptic technique, and documentation.
• Monitor postoperative recovery, pain management, discharge readiness, and continuity of care.
• Provide staff orientation, education, competency development, and risk management.

Location: Short Pump CV Ambulatory Surgery Center

Short Pump CV Ambulatory Surgery Center is an ASC located in Henrico, VA. With one procedure room, the center will provide high-quality, cost-effective outpatient cardiovascular care, including diagnostic heart catheterization, coronary interventions, peripheral interventions, and pacemaker and implantable cardiac device procedures.

Owned and operated in partnership with BSMH and Compass Surgical Partners (an ASC management organization), the center will combine advanced technology with compassionate, patient-centered care in a convenient outpatient setting.

Anticipated hire date in January 2027 ahead of center opening in Feb 2027.

Role Summary

Provides leadership, direction, and oversight of the Pre-Operative, Operating Room, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) departments to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care throughout the perioperative process. Reports directly to the Center CEO and works collaboratively with leadership to establish clinical priorities, direct daily operations, oversee staff performance, and ensure alignment with the Center’s goals, policies, and regulatory requirements.

What You’ll Do:

• Leads, directs, and coordinates Pre-Op, Operating Room, and PACU staff, including staffing assignments, scheduling, delegation, and patient flow.
• Oversees patient care throughout all phases of the perioperative experience, ensuring compliance with physician orders, facility policies, and safety standards.
• Supervises preoperative assessments, patient preparation, verification, education, and readiness for surgery.
• Oversees intraoperative nursing responsibilities, including patient positioning, surgical site verification, equipment preparation, aseptic technique, and documentation.
• Oversees postoperative recovery, including patient monitoring, assessment, pain management, intervention, discharge readiness, and continuity of care.
• Serves as a clinical resource and supports staff orientation, education, competency, and professional development.
• Promotes patient safety, quality improvement, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
• Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, anesthesia providers, staff, and leadership.
• Addresses patient and staff concerns and escalates issues when appropriate.
• Manages staffing, supplies, equipment, inventory, and resources to promote operational efficiency and cost containment.
• Participates in hiring, training, performance evaluations, staffing decisions, and employee development.
• Maintains professional competency through continuing education and ongoing development.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring:

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN).
• Pre-op, OR, and PACU nursing experience
• At least one year in a leadership role overseeing operative care in a ASC or hospital outpatient setting.
• Current Nursing License.
• BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and related computer applications.

Work Environment

Clinical operating room setting with exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, chemical hazards, and moderate noise. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and 100 pounds occasionally, stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform essential patient care responsibilities, with or without reasonable accommodation.
