Job summary

Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) in Kerrville, TX, seeks a Nurse Manager to lead the PsychSecurity Direct Care unit at Kerrville State Hospital. This role directs daily nursing operations, staffing, and patient care within a statewide system.

The position requires RN licensure in Texas, several years of management and psychiatric nursing experience, and ability to coordinate with a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.
• Four (4) years’ experience with a psychiatric population and/or with severe and persistent mental illness.
• Five (5) years of experience in direct nursing practice as a registered nurse in a hospital setting.
• Three (3) years’ experience as an administrative nurse with supervisory authority over other nurses preferred.
• Three (3) years’ experience as a team leader or nursing manager preferred.
• Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in Texas (or a state with reciprocity).

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, directs and manages the daily operations of the nursing area.
• Establishes staffing plan and ensures 24/7 nursing coverage.
• Hires, trains, and evaluates assigned nursing staff and oversees staff development.
• Oversees nursing policies, procedures and protocols to ensure quality care.
• Develops training curricula and provides in-service training.
• Participates in performance improvement activities and QAQI initiatives.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
