Qualifications

  • Must hold RN or LPN license in the state of employment.
  • Geriatric nursing interest and long-term care experience preferred.
  • Wound care experience preferred.
  • Ability to make sound judgments and decisions.
  • Physically fit, mentally and emotionally stable.
  • Familiarity with facility policies and procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Wound Care program.
  • Promote census growth and understand its impact on facility success.
  • Make rounds and monitor resident care with nursing staff.
  • Report changes in resident conditions to the Administrative Office.
  • Collaborate with department heads and consultants (e.g., dietary, pharmacy, therapy).
  • Supervise nursing personnel across all shifts.
  • Assist with in-service education, staff meetings, and orientation.
  • Review and update nursing care plans.
  • Follow directives from the Director of Nursing and provide written reports during their absence.
  • Conduct monthly surveys on resident care status and compile reports.
  • Address nursing-related issues in the absence of the DON.
  • Follow up on recommendations from the consulting pharmacist.
  • Provide floor coverage during staffing shortages.
  • Praise and discipline staff and assist with evaluations.
  • Issue warning notices for performance deficiencies.
  • Identify educational needs and coordinate in-service training.
  • Oversee Utilization Review activities per Medicare/Medicaid guidelines.
  • Review resident levels of care daily.
  • Educate staff on documentation requirements for skilled care.
  • Verify certifications for new admissions.
