The Municipality of Anchorage's Information Technology department seeks a GIS Technician/Analyst to maintain and support the Enterprise GIS, performing mapping, analysis, and data capture for user needs.
Under the GIS Supervisor, you will produce workflows and training materials, collaborate with GIS Technicians, Project Managers, System Analysts, and other IT staff, and communicate effectively with a diverse user base.

HOURS OF WORK: Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Example of Duties Under the direction of the GIS Supervisor, maintain and support the Municipality's Enterprise GIS. Perform a variety of custom mapping, analysis, research, and data capture and maintenance for users of the Municipality of Anchorage's GIS Data. Produce working technical documents such as workflows and training manuals. Provide support and work with GIS Technicians, Project Managers, System Analysts, Programmers, Developers, Server Administrators, and application users to meet the needs for integrating or directly accessing the enterprise GIS. Communicate and work with a diverse group of professionals and customers.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences Associate’s degree from an accredited university, college or technical school in Geographic Information Systems, Computer Science, Surveying Technology, Cartography, Geography, Mathematics, or a related field and two years of related GIS experience.
OR Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, Computer Science, Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Cartography, Geography, or a related field.
Substitution: Additional GIS experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for -year basis.
NOTICE If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory Municipal Employment Office conducted Background Check. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
Additional Important Information Prefer applicants with excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills in listening, facilitation, report generation and the ability to work on teams with minimal direction.
