Job summary

MetroHealth Rehabilitation Institute is seeking a Nurse Intern for the Neuro Trauma Recovery Stroke Unit (5N) to gain hands-on experience in a high-acuity rehab setting. You will assist with neurological assessments, ADLs, transfers, and vital signs under supervision.

The role supports a 14-bed unit with a multidisciplinary team including RNs, LPNs, PCNAs, and therapists, offering exposure to stroke rehabilitation and orthopedic care within a renowned program.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an accredited nursing program.
• Completed fundamentals of nursing.
• Currently in clinical rotations and continuously enrolled.
• Eligible to continue in the position up to 6 months after graduation.

Responsibilities

• Perform neurological assessments.
• Assist with adaptive ADLs.
• Support transfer and mobility training.
• Monitor vital signs and basic patient care.

Primary Patient Population:

• Stroke Rehabilitation

Primary skills utilized/learned:

• Neurological assessments
• Adaptive ADLs
• Transfer/Mobility training
• Vital signs, IVs, Foley Catheter insertion/removal, Wound care, etc.

Personnel Nurse Intern will work with:

• RNs, LPNs, Patient Care Nursing Assistants (PCNAs), Nurse Interns, Providers, Social Workers/Case Management, Respiratory Therapy, PT/OT, Speech Therapy, Art & Music Therapy, Dieticians

Number of beds on unit:

• 14 beds

Required Qualifications:

• - Enrolled in an accredited school of professional nursing (or a program seeking accreditation).
• - Completed fundamentals of nursing
• - Currently registered in clinical rotations
• - Continuous enrollment in a nursing program
• - Eligibility to continue in the position is a maximum of 6 months upon graduating from nursing school
• - Current AHA Basic Life Support for the healthcare provider certification or obtains within 90 days of hire.
