Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Nurse II at San Antonio State Hospital. This full-time exempt role on the Admissions Unit offers a stable schedule and opportunities to grow while delivering compassionate psychiatric care.

You will perform nursing assessments, contribute to recovery plans, administer medications, and train staff under supervision. Texas RN license and compliance with state policies are required; telework is not offered.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited nursing program or four-year college or university with major coursework in nursing.
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas, or in a party state that recognizes reciprocity.
Ability to comply with background checks and immunization requirements.

Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive assessment of patients' nursing care needs (physical, behavioral, psychiatric, social).
Develop or contribute to individualized recovery plans with the team.
Administer medications and maintain MAR and controlled drug records.
Provide patient and family health teaching and coping strategies.
Train staff in psychiatric nursing principles and milieu management.
