Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission in Austin, TX, is seeking a Nurse II at Austin State Hospital. This full-time exempt role offers a monthly salary between $6,579.41 and $7,761.50, plus a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for career advancement.

You will observe, assess, plan, intervene and evaluate nursing care under the Nurse Administrator, supervise staff, coordinate admissions/transfers, provide patient teaching, ensure safety, and participate in emergency/disaster

Qualifications

• Graduation from a Nursing Program accredited by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners required.
• At least six months of experience as a practicing registered nurse is required.
• Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
• Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas.

Responsibilities

• Assess health/mental status on admission and ongoing; document plans and outcomes.
• Coordinate staffing and patient care on units; supervise nursing staff.
• Facilitate admissions/transfers; communicate with admissions staff and unit staff.
• Carry out physician orders and implement nursing interventions per policy.
• Provide patient teaching on medications and treatments; tailor to age/cognition.
• Apply precautions and restraints per policy to maintain safety.
• Participate in disaster response readiness and COOP activities.
• Attend trainings and maintain required certifications and compliance.
