Job summary

Bethany Children’s Health Center offers a paid Nurse Externship Program that provides hands-on clinical experience for nursing students entering their senior year. As a Nurse Extern, you will assist the pediatric patient care team with activities of daily living under supervision by an experienced RN.

You will explore areas such as Complex Care, Transitional Care, and PMRU, and you may deliver a presentation on a current nursing diagnosis or problem facing nurses today to your cohort and staff.

Qualifications

• Must graduate from nursing program in May 2027.
• Letter of recommendation from program faculty.
• Current academic transcript.
• Skills check‑off list must be submitted upon hire.
• Application deadline: October 9, 2026.
• Virtual interviews begin: October 12, 2026.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic patient care under mentorship of an experienced RN.
• Hone focus areas: Complex Care, Transitional Care, and PMRU.

As a Nurse Extern, you will join Bethany Children’s for a paid externship to assist the pediatric patient care team by performing activities of daily living such as feeding meals, bathing, monitoring vital signs and donning/doffing splints and orthotic devices. All CNAs and NAs perform duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and core values of excellence, integrity, compassion, service and stewardship.

Responsibilities:

• Perform basic patient care and work with an experienced RN who will provide training and mentorship throughout the program.
• Have the opportunity to hone in on an area of focus (Complex Care, Transitional Care, and PMRU)
• Explore different aspects of pediatric nursing from the perspective of Case Managers, Nurse Practitioners, Clinic Nurses and Nursing Leadership.
• Plan and provide a presentation to your cohort and other healthcare team members on a diagnosis or problem facing nurses today.

Schedule:

• 12 hour shifts accommodatable for days, nights or weekends.
• Off on December 25th and January 1st.
• December 14th- 16th are mandatory days.
• Hold full time status until January 9th (you will be eligible to move to part-time status starting January 10th or PRN status starting January 24th).

Requirements:

• Must be graduating from your nursing program in May 2027.
• A letter of recommendation signed by a faculty member from the program in which you are enrolled.
