Job summary

UVA Health Culpeper Medical Center is seeking a Nursing extern for the Nights shift (7p-7a) with weekend rotation. Open to nursing students entering their final year with graduation between December 2027 and May 2028. Program runs 8 weeks from June 14, 2027 to August 7, 2027, with 36-40 hours weekly across three 12-hour shifts.

Emphasis on patient care under RN supervision in inpatient/outpatient settings. Students may work as a Nurse Extern until graduation; upon completion they should pursue

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled nursing student who graduates Dec 2027–May 2028.
• BSN students in 3rd year or ASN students in 1st year are eligible.
• May remain employed as a Nurse extern until graduation and board completion.

JOB SUMMARY

Performs a variety of patient care and administrative support functions under the supervision of a UVA Community Health Registered Nurse (RN) in an inpatient or outpatient setting.

• Assists patients with personal care as needed for optimal recovery during hospitalization.
• Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
• Maintains necessary skills and competencies.

Performs basic nursing skills as delegated by an RN and in accordance with policy and procedures to promote patient health and wellness.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Currently enrolled student nurses who graduate December of 2027-May 2028. BSN students who have completed their 3rd year; ASN students who have completed their 1st year.

Students may remain employed as a Nurse Extern until graduation completion. Following graduation and board completion they will need to apply for open positions and continue through the hiring process.

The base compensation for this role is $17.28 hourly.
