Job summary

UVA Health is seeking a nursing extern at UVA Community Health in Manassas, VA. The program runs 8 weeks, beginning June 14, 2027 and ending August 7, 2027, with 36–40 hours weekly over three 12-hour shifts.

JOB SUMMARY

Performs a variety of patient care and administrative support functions under the supervision of a UVA Community Health Registered Nurse (RN) in an inpatient or outpatient setting.

Assists patients with personal care as needed for optimal recovery during hospitalization.

Performs basic nursing skills as delegated by an RN and in accordance with policy and procedures to promote patient health and wellness.

Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.

Maintains necessary skills and competencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Currently enrolled student nurses who graduate December of 2027- May 2028 BSN students who have completed their 3rd year; ASN students who have completed their 1st year.

Students may remain employed as a Nurse Extern until graduation completion. Following graduation and board completion they will need to apply for open positions and continue through the hiring process.
