Job summary

Logan Regional Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Extern to work under the supervision of a licensed RN in an acute care hospital setting. The extern gains hands-on clinical experience by supporting direct and indirect patient care across medical-surgical, telemetry and critical care units.

As a nursing student, you will perform basic duties, learn the nursing process, and collaborate with the healthcare team in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in state-approved practical nursing program (LPN) or BSN/AS nursing program.
• Completion of fundamentals of nursing course with clinical practicum, required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Must meet onboarding and health requirements of the facility.
• Previous healthcare experience encouraged but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the RN with nursing process and unit standards.
• Perform basic nursing tasks under RN supervision.
• Document findings and care provided per policy.
• Communicate effectively with the RN and care team.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment.
• Provide emotional support to patients and families while maintaining boundaries.
• Demonstrate infection control, patient safety, and privacy adherence.
• Observe procedures and participate in clinical learning opportunities.
• Assist with non-clinical duties such as stocking supplies and transporting patients.
• Participate in department huddles and team meetings.
