Job summary

Banner Health's Nurse Extern program provides nursing students with hands-on experience under an RN preceptor in a 4 South unit. Externs practice assessment, medication administration, IV management, parenteral fluids, oxygen therapy, and data collection in EMR, preparing for RN licensure and a possible transition to a New Grad role in the same unit.

The program requires enrollment in an accredited nursing program, graduation in 12 months or less, and current BLS.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program and within 1 year of graduation.
• Must graduate from an accredited nursing program on initial anticipated graduation date.
• Current BLS certification is required.
• Must pass Nursing State Boards (NCLEX) within 90 days after graduation, with a second attempt within 60 days if needed.

Responsibilities

• Under RN supervision, provide direct nursing care and comfort to patients.
• Assist with assessment, planning, diagnosis, implementation and evaluation of care.
• Support care planning and patient data collection.
• Collaborate with disciplines to modify care under supervision.
• Adhere to safety standards and Banner policies while delivering care.
