Job summary

FirstHealth of the Carolinas is seeking a nurse extern, a temporary role for nursing students to practice in all nursing areas, co-assigned with an RN and supervised by a professional registered nurse.

Externs must be in good standing of a nationally accredited nursing program in their final year; BLS is required. The position requires weekend/holiday availability and shift rotations, with tasks including assisting the RN, rounds, and basic patient care under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assist RN with direct patient care and nursing procedures as outlined in the care plan.
• Make rounds, respond to patient requests, and report changes in condition to the RN.
• Support basic patient activities of daily living and maintain a safe, clean environment.
• Assist with admissions, transfers and discharges under supervision.
• Follow departmental policies and protect patient safety at all times.
