Job summary

Valley View Regional Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Extern to support clinical teams in a smaller hospital setting. This PRN role offers varied day and night shifts, with roughly four shifts per month and at least two weekend shifts, enabling flexibility while gaining hands-on nursing experience.

You will work under an RN supervision, performing direct patient care and learning through active engagement with patients and families in a collaborative health-care environment.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in nursing school and in their third year or higher.
• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
• Strong critical thinking, sound judgment, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and comfort in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Performs direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse, monitoring and communicating patient condition.
• Maintains positive professional relationships with patients, families, coworkers and healthcare team.
• Assists with activities of daily living including hygiene, elimination, nutrition and ambulation.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.

• Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

What we're looking for

• Applicants should be currently enrolled in nursing school and in theirthird years or higher of the program. Additional requirements include:
• Certification:Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire
• Required Skills:Strong critical thinking skills and sound judgment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while taking appropriate action.
