Duties of a Nurse Epidemiologist may include the following but are not limited to
  • Conduct surveillance, investigation, and reporting of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), communicable diseases, multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs), and other infection prevention concerns.
  • Assess and monitor patient isolation precautions, infection prevention practices, and regulatory compliance through routine chart review, rounding, and consultation with clinical teams.
  • Collect, analyze, interpret, and report infection prevention data to support quality improvement initiatives, performance monitoring, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Investigate infectious disease exposures and outbreaks, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and implement evidence-based prevention and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide education, training, and consultation to healthcare personnel, patients, and leadership regarding infection prevention, communicable diseases, isolation practices, and healthcare epidemiology. [
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate infection prevention policies, procedures, and best practices consistent with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in regulatory readiness activities, accreditation surveys, construction and environmental risk assessments, emergency preparedness planning, and emerging pathogen response efforts.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, Employee Health, public health agencies, and external partners to support infection prevention, surveillance, reporting, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Serve as an active member of infection prevention, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary committees, workgroups, research activities, and organizational initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or other health-related field.

  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
  • Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position is - $89760 - $127975 / year.

The above salary range represents SBUH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.

Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:
  • Location pay for UUP full‑time positions ($4000)
