Position Overview:
The UNC Medical Center Outpatient Education and Training team seeks a dedicated Nurse Educator to support nursing and clinical staff development, including onboarding, competency, practice, and ongoing professional growth in ambulatory/outpatient clinics and procedural areas. Responsibilities include onboarding/orientation, educational support, regulatory compliance, skill training, apprentice programs, student placement, organizational initiatives, and policy development. Clinical experience in children’s and/or women’s services and professional certification are preferred.

This is a weekday, on-site position based at Hedrick Building, Chapel Hill, NC, with occasional travel to off-site clinics. Strong communication, adaptability, creativity, initiative, organization, and time management skills are essential for managing multiple projects and clinics.

Job Responsibilities

• Serve as a resource and role model in evidence-based practice and lead clinical practice groups.
• Assist in orientation and placement of nursing students and mentor graduate students.
• Support nursing staff in clinical research and performance improvement projects.
• Ensure new staff meet competency expectations through preceptor responsibilities.
• Conduct learning needs assessments and coordinate staff development programs.
• Develop and implement evidence-based standards, nursing plans, and clinical pathways.
• Create and evaluate educational materials, self-instructional programs, and e-learning resources.
• Develop patient and family education materials in collaboration with subject matter experts.
• Provide clinical supervision and serve as a clinical resource to staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
• Licensed Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
• CPR/BLS certification.
• Professional certification in specialty area within 6 months of hire.

Experience

• At least 3 years of tertiary care experience, with 2 years in the specific specialty.
• Preferred: experience in education/professional development, ambulatory/outpatient settings, women’s or pediatric services.

Skills and Abilities

Strong organizational, planning, interpersonal, and communication skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to manage multiple projects independently and collaboratively.

Additional Details

Full-time, exempt, on-site position at UNC Medical Center, Chapel Hill, NC. Salary range: $35.52 - $49.81 per hour, based on experience. Benefits included.
