Job summary

Avera DeSmet Memorial Hospital is seeking a Nursing Intern to join the Nursing Service. The role supports patient care under RN supervision, with focus on practical nursing skills and professional behavior.

The intern will function within a multidisciplinary team, participate in care planning, and help with documentation while adhering to safety and regulatory standards. This is a temporary, rotating shifts position in South Dakota.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in CCNE or NLN accredited RN program.
• Ability to work the hours specified (6:45am-6:45pm; 6:45pm-7:15am) including 3-12hr shifts and every 3rd weekend/holiday rotation.
• Must demonstrate nursing competencies and professional behavior as per ANA standards.

Responsibilities

• Provides patient care by reviewing physician prescriptions and communicating the care plan to the health care team.
• Develops nursing care plans by assessing patients, documenting condition, and coordinating with family.
• Teaches healthcare requirements by educating patients and families on condition, medications, and self-care.
• Evaluates patient care by adhering to standards, reviewing records, and adjusting plans as needed.
• Maintains safe care environment by following infection-control, medication, storage procedures and regulations.
