Job summary

St. Mary Medical Center is seeking a Nurse Assistant to provide direct, basic patient care under RN guidance in the MS1D Med/Surg Oncology unit. The role supports patient safety, comfort, and efficient room turnover in a 16-bed private room setting.

The position requires a CNA with PA registry or completion of clinical rotations, BLS, and at least 1 year of related experience or EMT certification. The shift includes 12-hour day coverage with on-site parking and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate/Equivalent is required.
• PA Nurse Aide Registry (CNA) OR completed a minimum of one semester of clinical rotations in an accredited nursing program is required.
• 1 year of relevant experience and/or relevant certification (EMT) is considered in lieu of required certification/clinical rotation.
• BLS Required.

Responsibilities

• Performs direct and indirect patient care activities following RN instructions, physician orders, policies, procedures and regulations.
• Obtain supplies from designated supply rooms to assure patient rooms are ready for patient admission and cleared when patient discharged/transferred.
• Demonstrates ability to feed patients, dysphasia precautions and intake/output recording.
• Demonstrates competence collecting specimens (urine, clean catch, foley, stools).
• Applies heat/cold packs, ace wraps, slings and orthopedic devices as directed.
• Assists with hourly rounding to ensure patient safety and comfort; observes safety details; assists with toileting and personal needs.
• Seeks assistance from Nurse Manager for conflict resolution as needed.

Unit Overview

Unit cares for oncology/chemo patients. MS1D holds 16 beds in private rooms.

As a Nurse Assistant, you will

• Performs direct and indirect patient care activities following RN instructions, physician orders, policies, procedures and regulations
• Obtain supplies from designated supply rooms to assure patient rooms are ready for patient admission and cleared when patient discharged/transferred.
• Demonstrates ability to feed patients, knowledge of dysphasia precautions and calculating and recording intake and output.
• Demonstrates competence while collecting specimens-urine routine, clean catch, foley, stools for c-diff, etc.
• Demonstrates competence with the application of heat and cold packs, ace wraps, slings, binders, protective devices and orthopedic devices.
• Participates in hourly rounding programs and schedules to ensure patient safety and reduce patient harm; observes for environmental safety, informs patient and family on safety precautions, turns and repositions patients, preemptively assists with toileting activities, and addresses personal needs.
• Appropriately seeks assistance of the Nurse Manager of designee for conflict resolution.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Graduate/Equivalent required.
• PA Nurse Aide Registry (CNA) OR completed a minimum of one semester of clinical rotations in an accredited nursing program required.
