McLaren Health Care in Michigan is seeking a nursing assistant for the Intensive Care Step Down unit to support nursing staff and assist in delivering patient care under RN supervision.

The role requires handling routine tasks, data collection, and basic clinical procedures during night shifts. A high school diploma, suitable CNA/EMT/MA education, and a BLS certification are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Acute care CNA, long-term care CNA, EMT, medical assistant, or clinical rotation during accredited program are acceptable options.
• Direct patient care experience preferred; if the specialized education is not met, at least six months of direct care experience required.
• BLS certification for Healthcare Providers or MTN equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Provides routine patient care such as call light response; ambulating, transferring, positioning; personal hygiene assistance.
• Collects, records, and reports patient data; reports changes in patient condition.
• Performs skin preps, basic skin care, bedside finger stick glucose tests, and quality checks of glucose instruments.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of a registered nurse, responsible for providing support to nursing staff and assisting in the delivery of patient care following patient care plan and hospital policies and procedures

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Provides routine patient care services such as call light response; ambulating, transferring, and positioning; personal hygiene assistance, prescribed bowel and bladder program assistance, etc.
• Collects, records, and reports various patient data.Reports changes in patient condition.
• Performs surgical skin preps, basic skin care procedures, bedside finger stick blood sugars, and quality control checks of blood glucose instruments.

Required:

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Specialized education requirements, for those not meeting minimum six-month nursing assistance experience requirement, include:
• acute care nursing assistant course preferred for acute care positions or
• long term care nursing assistant course or
• completion of an emergency medical technician program or
• completion of medical assistant program or
• completion of a clinical rotation while participating an accredited nursing program.
• Direct patient care experience preferred. Prior nursing assistant experience of at least six months is required when the specialized education requirements identified above has not been met
• BLS certification as Healthcare Provider or equivalent through the Military Training Network (MTN).
