Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Michigan is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to support nursing staff and assist in delivering patient care according to care plans and hospital policies. Under RN supervision, you will handle routine care tasks, data entry, and clerical duties on the unit.

Responsibilities include responding to call lights, assisting with mobility and hygiene, collecting patient data, and coordinating information flow.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a health unit coordinator course preferred.
• Healthcare terminology and data entry experience beneficial.
• EMT, medical assistant, or nursing program rotation may substitute.
• Six months nursing assistant experience helpful if education not met.
• BLS Healthcare Provider certification or MTN equivalent required.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of a registered nurse, responsible for providing support to nursing staff and assisting in the delivery of patient/resident care following patient care plan and hospital policies and procedures.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Provides routine patient/resident care services such as call light response; ambulating, transferring, and positioning; personal hygiene assistance, prescribed bowel and bladder program assistance, etc.
• Collects, records, and reports various patient/resident data. Reports changes in patient/resident condition.
• Provides general clerical support to unit such as answering the phone, data entry, and assembling, maintaining, and distributing various information.

Required

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Successful completion of a health unit coordinator course or, high school or college course work in medical terminology and computer/data entry.
• Specialized education requirements, for those not meeting minimum six-month nursing assistance experience requirement, include:
• acute care nursing assistant course preferred for acute care positions or
• long term care nursing assistant course or
• completion of an emergency medical technician program or
• completion of medical assistant program or
• completion of a clinical rotation while participating in accredited nursing program.
• Prior nursing assistant experience of at least six months is required when the specialized education requirements identified above has not been met.
• BLS certification as Healthcare Provider or equivalent through the Military Training Network (MTN).

Preferred

• Six months of clerical experience in healthcare setting. Direct patient care experience.
• Computer keyboard skills and windows application experience.
