Job summary

McLaren Health Care is seeking a Patient Care Associate/Nurse Assistant in the Geri Psych unit. The role involves day-to-day patient care under RN supervision, maintaining a comfortable and safe environment, and respecting patient developmental, age-specific, and cultural needs. The position supports patient well-being and requires interaction with patients and families in a compassionate manner.

Shift: Days, 7:00am–7:30pm, Full-time. Includes compliance with HIPAA/OSHA and related policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Formal education in medical careers or enrollment in nursing school; or two years of experience as a Patient Care Associate/Nurse Assistant.
• BLS certification from AHA/ARC or Canadian equivalent required before start and valid at least 60 days beyond start date.

Responsibilities

• Performs specific patient care interventions as delegated by the RN to help attain treatment goals.
• Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
• Provides physical support for daily activities and personal hygiene (bathing, feeding, dressing, mobility).
• Ensures compliance with health care regulations including HIPAA and OSHA.
• Maintains safe, clean work environment and follows infection-control and hazardous waste policies.
• Performs other related duties as requested.

Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of a Nurse, contributes to the delivery of patient-centered care through: Performance of selected day-to-day patient care activities. Maintenance of an environment that is functionally and aesthetically conducive to patient well-being. Demonstrates unit/area-designated competencies. Interacts with patients considering their developmental, age-specific, and cultural spiritual preferences.

Responsibilities:

• Performs specific patient care interventions as delegated by the RN in effort to identify/attain treatment goals.
• Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
• Provides physical support for patients with daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, showering, feeding, dressing, getting out of bed, using the toilet, walking, standing or exercising.
• Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
• Performs other related job duties as requested.

Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Formal education or training in a medical careers program OR enrollment in nursing school OR two or more years’ experience in a Patient Care Associate/Nurse Assistant role
• BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date

Preferred:

• State Certified Nursing Assistant
• Basic EMT Certification
• LPN License
