Job summary

McLaren Health Care is seeking a Patient Care Associate to support RN-directed care and maintain a patient-centered environment on the 8 W Medical Surgical unit.

Responsibilities include daily patient care interventions, compassionate support for patients and families, and adherence to HIPAA/OSHA regulations. Requires a High School Diploma and BLS certification; full-time schedule is days 7:00 am–7:30 pm.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• BLS certification from AHA/ARC or Canadian equivalent is required before start date and valid for 60+ days.
• Formal education in medical careers or enrollment in nursing school, or 2+ years’ experience as a Patient Care Associate/Nurse Assistant.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day patient care activities under RN supervision.
• Maintain an environment conducive to patient well-being.
• Interact with patients considering their age, development and cultural needs.
• Deliver compassionate support to patients and families.
• Follow health care regulations including HIPAA and OSHA.

Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of a Nurse, contributes to the delivery of patient-centered care through: Performance of selected day-to-day patient care activities. Maintenance of an environment that is functionally and aesthetically conducive to patient well-being. Demonstrates unit/area-designated competencies. Interacts with patients considering their developmental, age-specific, and cultural spiritual preferences.

Responsibilities

• Performs specific patient care interventions as delegated by the RN in effort to identify/attain treatment goals.
• Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.
• Provides physical support for patients with daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, showering, feeding, dressing, getting out of bed, using the toilet, walking, standing or exercising.
• Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.
• Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
• Performs other related job duties as requested.

Required

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Formal education or training in a medical careers program OR enrollment in nursing school OR two or more years’ experience in a Patient Care Associate/Nurse Assistant role
• BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date

Preferred

• One year prior work experience in a patient care environment
