BayCare Practical Nurse Apprentice Program invites candidates to enroll by meeting entry requirements and by supporting patient care under RN supervision. The program emphasizes learning through labs, clinical shifts, and real-world patient care experiences across multiple BayCare locations.

Participants progress toward PN-I/PN-II through the curriculum, with a work commitment of two years after graduation and mandatory completion of PN-NCLEX within 30 days of program end.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Attendance is required in every class and clinical shift.
• Complete a work agreement for two years upon completion of the education program.
• At program completion you must pass the PN-NCLEX within 30 days.
• At program completion you must earn your RN-BSN within 4 years.
• This position requires Level II screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.

Responsibilities

• Delivery of patient care to assigned patients, including IV infusions, infusion pumps, and tube feedings under supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Identify, implement, and maintain teaching plans for patient and caregivers under direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Follow plan of care and collaborate with a Registered Nurse regarding patient response to treatment and changes in status.
• Utilize nursing knowledge in administration of medication and evaluation of effectiveness when applicable.
• Hire as a nurse helper or a patient care technician with career progression to PNA I and PNA II through curriculum.
