Job summary

BayCare is recruiting for the Practical Nurse Apprentice Program in the Tampa Bay area. To qualify you must be enrolled in Pinellas Technical College by October 12, 2026 with passing TEA scores.

The program runs January 5, 2027 through March 2028 and requires availability for all classes at PTC. Apprentices start as nurse helper or patient care technician with career progression to PNA I and PNA II as you advance through the curriculum.

Qualifications

• No previous nursing or healthcare experience required.
• Enrollment in Pinellas Technical College by Oct 12, 2026 with passing TEA scores.
• Must pass PN-NCLEX within 30 days after program completion.
• Must earn RN-BSN within 4 years after program completion.
• Attendance required for every class and clinical shift.
• Complete a work agreement for two years after graduation.

Responsibilities

• Delivery of patient care to assigned patients under RN supervision, including IV infusions and tube feeds.
• Identify and maintain teaching plans for patients and caregivers under RN direction.
• Follow care plans and collaborate with RN regarding patient status and response to treatment.
• Utilize nursing knowledge in medication administration and evaluation when applicable.

What does a Practical Nurse do?

• Delivery of patient care to assigned patients, provides care for clients as ordered including IV infusions, infusion pumps, and tube feedings under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
• Identifies, implements, and maintains appropriate teaching plans for patient and caregivers under direction of a Registered Nurse
• Follows plan of care and collaborates with Registered Nurse regarding patient response to treatment and change in status
• Utilizes nursing knowledge in the administration of medication and evaluation of effectiveness when applicable.

*You will either be hired in as a nurse helper or a patient care technician with career progression to PNA I and PNA II as you move through the curriculum

Participating Locations:

• Home Care - New Port Richey,Largo, Dunedin, Sarasota, Bradenton, Tampa and Lakeland
• Emergency Department - Morton Plant, Countryside, Dunedin and St Anthony's

Program Length: January 5th, 2027 - March, 2028 (MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL CLASSES LOCATED AT PINELLAS TECHNICAL COLLEGE)

Class Schedule:

• 10-20 hours weekly of labs, simulation, lecture and testing

On the Job Training Schedule:

• ER Team Members will work three 12-hour shifts per week
• Home Care team members will work five 8-hour shifts per week

Work Agreement:

• Commitment of 2 years full-time after graduation

This position requires no previous nursing or healthcare work experience. However, it does require a person who is dedicated to learning patient care and using those skills to make a difference in people's lives every day.

Requirements :

• High school diploma or GED
• Attendance is requiredinevery class and clinical shift.
• Complete a work agreement for two years upon completion of the education program
• At program completion you must pass the PN-NCLEX within 30 days
• At program completion you must earn your RN-BSN within 4 years
