Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Nurse Aide for the Medical Surgical 4N unit. This full-time day shift role involves assisting the registered nurse with routine patient care, maintaining clean and safe rooms, and helping prepare rooms and equipment for procedures.

The ideal candidate holds a High School Diploma or GED, BLS, and basic nursing skills. You will participate in orientation and collaborate with multiple disciplines to support patient comfort and safety.

Qualifications

• BLS certification (AHA only) and first aid training.
• De-escalation training provided on job.
• Ability to read and write at an elementary school level to understand the patient's plan of care and to record data on the patient's medical record.
• Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations at an elementary school level in order to take and record the patient's weight, vital signs, I & O.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patients and their families that demonstrate recognition of cultural diversity.
• Basic analytical skills in order to gather data, complete comparisons, interpret, & report outcomes to the nurse or document on the medical record.
• Ability to manage and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Must possess excellent customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver basic nursing care to meet patient needs and comfort.
• Respond promptly to patient call lights and relay information to nursing staff.
• Observe patients and report changes in condition to the nurse.
• Assist with activities of daily living and nourishment.
• Perform routine procedures such as vital signs, baths, and specimen collection.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organized patient environment.
• Assist with turning, positioning and transferring patients.
• Support on-unit workflow and collaborate with other departments.
