Overview:

The Nurse Aide in Training program allows the employee to receive online and on-the-floor training as a Nurse Aide. Those who provide good customer service, are reliable, team players, and have a strong work ethic will become eligible for Education Assistance to become a Certified Nurse Aide. Depending on availability and the employee’s learning preferences, Education Assistance will be provided at NO COST through one of the following avenues:

  1. Classes on or offsite at a Regency location.
  2. A local program offered by a community college or technical school.
  3. An internship and a waiver to skip the class but be able to pass a skills check and practice exam provided by the facility, qualifying the employee to schedule for testing.

What does a Nurse Aide and CNA do in skilled nursing?

The Nurse Aide and C.N.A.s work under the direction of the Charge Nurses and provide assigned residents with assistance for activities of daily living as outlined in the resident’s customized care plan. Nurse Aides and C.N.As must be compassionate, friendly, and enjoy helping others to provide the personal level of care expected.

Essential Functions

  • Provide residents with comfort and safety; including detecting and reporting situations that may cause resident accidents or injuries.
  • Carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with resident care policy and procedure.
  • Assist in customary daily requirements and tasks in care and treatment such as bathing, feeding, dressing, observing intake of food, care of hair, nails, moving residents from area to area, lifting, and transferring.
  • Utilize and log care provided into the Electronic Medical Records system.
  • Measure and record vital signs.
  • Observe and report symptoms, reactions, and changes of conditions to nursing staff.
  • Maintain care of equipment and supplies.
  • Walk with ambulatory residents or push in a wheelchair as required.
  • Safely perform movements such as pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting in excess of 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Answer call lights promptly, addressing the needs of the resident or determining if assistance is needed from a Charge Nurse or another department.
  • Always provide good customer service - tactful, appropriate communication in sensitive and emotional situations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Administrator or Nurse Management.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is highly preferred.
  • Experience as a caregiver is preferred.
  • Good communication skills.
