Job summary

Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) is seeking a Nurse Aide to perform basic nursing procedures and assist in patient care. Responsibilities include personal care, feeding, vital signs, specimen collection, and supporting medical staff across procedures in a hospital setting.

Qualifications require a high school diploma or GED and completion of a nursing aide training program, with on-the-job training and potential LTC venue training as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Successful completion of a hospital-approved Nursing Aide Training Program.
• Three (3) months on-the-job training required; additional training may be needed for LTC hospital venues.

Responsibilities

• Provides personal care including bath, shampoo, shave, bed making, meals, feeding and assisting with nourishment.
• Answers signal lights promptly to determine and meet patient needs.
• Collects specimens (stool, urine, sputum) and records input/output.
• Records vital signs and relevant patient information per hospital policy.
• Assists with ambulation using wheelchair, stretcher or bed.
• Administers enemas, douches and records documentation.
• Assists with Foley catheters and Levine tubes as instructed by nurse.
• Maintains patient safety and isolation procedures; observes safety hazards.
• Prepares patients for surgery, x-ray and other procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
