Job summary

Worcester Public Schools is seeking a Literacy Tutor Systemwide (Part-Time) to support elementary students in Language Arts, Science, Math and Social Studies. The role focuses on small-group instruction under the direction of the classroom teacher, with duties including progress reporting and collaboration with staff.

Working about 3 hours daily (roughly 180 pupil session days per year), the position is to be scheduled by the supervisor.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Priority given to certified teachers.
• If certified teachers are not available, non-certified individuals with relevant experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Instruct small groups in Language Arts, Science, Math and Social Studies.
• Reinforce lessons as presented by the classroom teacher.
• Use varied instructional techniques to meet student needs.
• Report progress to classroom teachers on a regular basis.
• Help achieve district curriculum outcomes.
• Support classroom management and behavior reinforcement as directed.
• Foster a warm, open atmosphere to promote student growth.
• Communicate with staff, students, parents and community members as needed.
• Assist substitute teachers when regular staff are absent.
• Perform emergency/duty tasks as required by the principal.
• Ensure equal educational opportunity for all students.
• Contribute to other duties as assigned by the principal.
