Job summary

C.A. Murren is seeking a Welding Engineering Manager to lead the Welding and Special Processes Program on a project in Aiken, SC.

This role oversees Welding Engineers, Field Welding Engineers, and Rod Room Attendant, driving procedures, qualifications, and materials control to meet nuclear project requirements. The ideal candidate will bring 10+ years in welding engineering, with 5+ in DOE or commercial nuclear environments and strong leadership, plus hands-on QA/NDE coordination and supplier

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive welding-engineering experience, incl. 5+ years in DOE/commercial nuclear work and 3+ years leading a welding program.
  • Authority with ASME Section IX and B31.3; working knowledge of ASME II/V and AWS D1.1/D1.4.
  • Experience developing and qualifying welding procedures and administering welder qualification, filler-metal, and NDE/PWHT controls.
  • Working knowledge of ASME NQA-1 and DOE O 414.1D as applied to welding and nuclear-quality records.
  • Strong leadership, writing, and issue-resolution skills under schedule pressure.
  • Preferred: AWS CWI/CWE credentials and experience with nuclear welding subcontracting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and improve the Welding and Special Processes Program including procedures, qualifications, training, and records.
  • Lead Welding Engineers, Field Welding Engineers, and Rod Room Attendant across work areas and shifts.
  • Review contracts, drawings, and specifications to establish welding requirements and resolve questions.
  • Approve WPSs, PQRs, welder qualifications, and related control documents.
  • Direct welder qualification testing, NDE coordination, and weld-status tracking.
  • Oversee filler-metal procurement, storage, and rod-room controls.
  • Provide field technical support for fit-up, dissimilar-metal welds, repairs, and changes.
  • Evaluate supplier and subcontractor welding programs and support fabrication surveillance.
  • Monitor welder performance and NDE trends; initiate corrective actions as needed.
  • Serve as primary welding technical interface with Operations, Construction, Quality, and Company.
