Job summary

Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract Welding Engineer opportunity in Bellevue, WA to develop and qualify welding techniques for nuclear reactor core internals and to lead weld process development across ferritic-martensitic steels and austenitic stainless steels using TIG, laser, and resistance welding.

You will generate specifications and procedures, oversee equipment, and contribute to test programs and material models, with travel about 5% and a pay rate of $65-$85 per hour.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or a Master’s degree.
• Degree in Materials Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline is desired.
• Solid understanding of metallurgy including fabrication and thermomechanical processing of ferrous alloys is required.
• Experience with stringent quality systems (NQA-1, ISO-9001, AS9100) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and qualify welding techniques for nuclear reactor core internals.
• Weld process development and qualification for ferritic-martensitic steels and austenitic stainless steels using TIG, laser, and resistance welding.
• Generate specifications and procedures for weld processes and review engineering documentation.
• Oversee welding equipment operation to create test coupons for process qualification.
• Develop inspection criteria for weld certification.
• Use materials engineering to model material performance and validate with labs.
• Develop test requirements, plans, and procedures for testing.
• Oversee test programs for weld qualification including mechanical, burst, and irradiation tests.
• Prepare technical reports documenting new knowledge for reactor design and qualification.
• Interface with project teams to meet program objectives; assist with supplier audits per ASME NQA-1-2015.
