Job summary

General Matter seeks a Nuclear Safeguards and Materials Control & Accountability (MC&A) Analyst/Engineer to join our team in Santa Monica, CA. You will ensure compliance with NRC, DOE, and IAEA safeguards, develop MC&A programs, and support operations by maintaining accurate material control and inventory tracking at a nuclear fuel cycle facility.

Qualifications

  • Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc).
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to perform trade studies and make clear recommendations using first principles and engineering fundamentals even with partial information.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field; advanced degrees may substitute for years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge of NRC, DOE, and IAEA safeguards requirements and regulations.
  • Proficiency in MC&A software and tools, including database management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain MC&A programs to ensure compliance with NRC, DOE, and international safeguards regulations.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on nuclear material balances, inventories, and movements to ensure accountability and regulatory compliance.
  • Analyze and reconcile discrepancies in nuclear material accounting and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports and documentation related to nuclear material control and safeguards.
  • Perform nuclear material risk assessments and vulnerability analyses, identifying and mitigating potential threats to material security.
  • Collaborate with operations, security, and regulatory teams to support safe and compliant handling of nuclear materials.
  • Assist in developing and conducting training programs for staff on MC&A and safeguards procedures.
  • Represent the organization during audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews by agencies such as the NRC, DOE, and IAEA.
  • Stay updated on evolving regulatory requirements and advancements in MC&A technologies and best practices.
