Job summary

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, seeks skilled Refuelers to handle nuclear fuel with safety and precision. Eligible candidates may receive $2,500 relocation if living 50+ miles away and a $2,500 sign-on bonus for external hires with active clearance; internal employees are ineligible.

The Refueler role covers fueling, defueling, storage, and handling of nuclear fuel, with potential equipment installation support.

Qualifications

  • Active confidential or higher security clearance required.
  • Candidates must be able to work at extreme heights or in small confined spaces.
  • Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb.
  • Must lift 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test.
  • Must work year-round in all weather conditions.
  • Must pass a Physical Agility Test.
  • Must complete radiological training.
  • One year or more of machinist-related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform rigging operations and machining tasks with procedural accuracy.
  • Follow NNPI/CUI handling procedures and safety manuals.
  • Inspect and maintain refueling equipment, pumps and spill gear.
  • Coordinate repairs with Maintenance Control.
  • Implement spill prevention measures and respond to spills.
  • Maintain required certifications and attend safety drills.
