Job summary

Idaho Environmental Coalition is seeking an Operations Engineer II to support on-duty operations at the Idaho Falls site. The role focuses on monitoring plant parameters, ensuring safe operation, and providing technical assistance to the Shift Supervisor during normal and abnormal conditions.

The candidate will qualify portions of the System Engineer requirements and hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering with multiple years of relevant experience, including nuclear-related exposure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical degree plus 4 years of relevant experience with 1 year of nuclear related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Compare existing critical parameters to plant-specific critical safety function limiting values and provide independent verification to the shift supervisor during transient and accident situations.
  • Immediately report abnormalities or plant parameters that may challenge critical safety functions or degrade safety levels.
  • Assess plant parameters during and after an accident to determine whether damage has occurred or is imminent.
  • Use redundant plant indications to verify that no critical safety function is challenged during emergencies.
  • Offer recommendations to operations on corrective actions to restore parameters to safe values.
  • Investigate causes of abnormal events and advise on procedure or equipment changes to prevent recurrence.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of procedures for terminating or mitigating accidents and suggest changes as needed.
  • Assist control room operators in evaluating operability of plant equipment to comply with technical safety requirements.
