Job description

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist Supervisor is licensed in all scopes of practice as defined by the State of California Radiologic Health branch and performs routine to complex diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures using radiopharmaceuticals to assist in diagnosis and/or treatment in both the inpatient and outpatient environment.

Responsibilities

• Management of technologists and ancillary support staff.
• Organization of workflow, coordination of daily work schedules and shift coverage.
• Knowledge of all procedures and equipment; maintenance of documentation.
• Ensuring department productivity and staff orientation, training, and development.
• Strong leadership skills and effective communication with staff, other departments, and physicians.
• Supervises employees in daily work assignments: monitoring equitable workload distribution, providing training and coaching, and encouraging teamwork.
• Responsible for workflow in the department: scheduling according to urgency, maintaining patient wait times, handling unexpected problems, monitoring staff coverage, and managing shift handovers.
• Assists with procedures and patient care: demonstrating expertise on all nuclear medicine equipment, monitoring exam quality, troubleshooting equipment, coordinating special patient examinations, responding to inquiries, facilitating patient transport, and addressing complaints.
• Integrates PRIDE service standards: recruiting and onboarding new employees, completing performance appraisals, evaluating job performance, implementing disciplinary actions, and maintaining current licenses and certifications.
• Adheres to policies and procedures: using proper body mechanics, following radiation safety guidelines, adhering to attendance policies, maintaining compliance with safety, infection control, and environmental health, and following SNMMI, NMTCB, ARRT, and ASRT standards.
• Information Management: demonstrating competency in the Radiology Information System, electronic health records, Nuclear Medicine systems, PACS, and Incident Reporting System; ensuring accurate clinical data and order verification.
• Development: assuming responsibility for professional growth, attending staff development activities, participating in cross‑training, staying current with technical changes, and complying with continuing education requirements.
• Performance Improvement: ensuring accurate quality control documentation, participating in clinical and research protocol development, reporting incidents in a timely manner, and encouraging staff participation in performance improvement activities.
• Budgetary: maintaining adequate supplies, ordering supplies, knowing budget and staffing standards, processing invoices, identifying cost‑containment opportunities, communicating suggestions, and ensuring appropriate billing codes.
• Other Functions And Responsibilities: performing other duties as assigned within the general scope of the job, training, and licensure.

Qualifications

• Current California CNMT (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist).
• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) certification.
• Demonstrated leadership skills in training and guiding employees on radiology modality techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment.
• Applied background in nuclear medicine and associated modalities; knowledge of principles, protocols, terms, and concepts.
• Ability to assist with personnel management issues, such as performance reviews and disciplinary actions.
• Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with staff, patients and other medical personnel.
• Knowledge of relevant regulatory agency standards.
• Proven ability to supervise and coordinate activities of subordinate staff, establish priorities and delegate work assignments.
• Solid communication skills, both written and verbal, including active listening and counseling.
• Computer proficiency and competency in MS Word and Excel; knowledge of electronic medical/health records.

Preferred

• Two to three years of supervisory experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes.
• ARRT (CT) or NMTCB (CT) certification.
• BLS (CPR).
