Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital

Pursue your passion for caring with Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital in Mooresville, North Carolina. The smallest of Duke Health’s four hospitals at 123 beds, it offers a comprehensive range of medical services, including 24-hour emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, women's services, and surgical specialties.

Summary

Coordinate and participate in a variety of technical tasks, tests, and determinations involving the utilization of radioactive materials and measurement instrumentation.

Work Performed
  • Coordinate and participate in various technical procedures, including in vivo and in vitro studies; operate radiation detection and measurement instrumentation, including stationary imaging devices, scintillation gamma cameras, and apparatus for in vitro counting.
  • Calibrate and prepare radiopharmaceuticals for patient administration; formulate radiopharmaceuticals from pre-prepared kits.
  • Review calibration data to detect trends indicating instrument malfunction; calculate data, including patient study results and radioactive decay.
  • Evaluate recorded images for technical quality; process computerized image data, including function curves and reconstructed SPECT images.
  • Assume care for the physical and psychological needs of patients of all ages during examinations; initiate life support measures if necessary.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies; prepare and maintain records related to radiopharmaceutical activities, including receipt, dispensing, and disposal.
  • Provide instruction and technical guidance to radiologic technology students and assist in training new employees.
  • Monitor the Nuclear Medicine Department with portable survey meters for possible contamination.
  • Perform EKG preparation and tracing; assist in developing and evaluating new procedures and techniques; consult with physicians on nuclear medicine procedures.
  • Administer thyroid therapy under supervision, ensuring proper dosage and patient safety.
  • Assist in quality assurance programs and in the education and training of new physicians.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficiency with office computer software.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection and safety protocols.
  • General computer skills, IV placement, and management skills.
Qualifications

Graduate or completion of a program meeting eligibility for registry/certification or current certification. Experience requirements vary by level, with certifications such as ARRT (N) or NMTCB needed within specified timeframes. BLS certification is also required.
